The Grain Exchange in Axel goes back to the 16th century and you can still feel that.
The light enters through windows that bear witness to ancient times.
The beams in the ceiling have probably been reflecting the sound of voices at the tables and bar for centuries.
The attractive interior was painted by Johannes Vermeer: blue and gold, in subtle light from well-chosen lamps.
From minute 1 we enjoyed the atmosphere in the restaurant, also thanks to the attentive friendliness of the patron and service.
And the meal? That was delicious!
Perfectly prepared cod and tender, tasty farm chicken.
The menu does not offer a lengthy list of dishes, which only contributes to the quality of what is served.
There is a good varied selection, including a nice vegetarian menu.
The wine list offers an interesting variation in white, red and rosé, short and well documented in terms of country, grape and taste palette.
And you can drink a cocktail without getting the feeling that a pickpocket sneaked past your table, you will be spared that hangover.
The Grain Exchange is a hidden gem in Axel!

Nice place, good food
Had a delicious meal last Sunday. Friendly service and nice atmosphere. Restaurant is nicely decorated with warm lighting. We sat comfortably in the corner near the door. Even though it was quite busy, there was no noise pollution from other people. In short, highly recommended.
